Jac de Villiers

I was born in Cape Town, which remains my base. I opened my studio there in the mid 1970s. Prior to that I attended film-making classes at the London College of Printing. I mainly do décor, travel and portrait photography. During 2004, I made a world trip to photograph celebrities for the Desmond Tutu Peace Trust. An exhibition, 'Hands That Shape Humanity', followed. In 2006, I photographed The Owl House in Nieu Bethesda in the Great Karoo. These photographs were exhibited at the University of Stellenbosch at its Festival of Words in early 2007. In 2008, I exhibited 'The Restaurant at the End of the World' a story portraying the humble, entrepreneurial lifestyle of a small settlement in the remote Namaqualand district of the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. My work has been published in numerous magazines, amongst others: Bon Appétit; Condé Nast Traveler; Cosmopolitan; Elle Decor; Food Illustration; Food & Wine; Food & Home; Harpers & Queen; House & Leisure; National Geographic Traveller; Travel & Leisure; and Visi.
